About Biodiesel

What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel refers to a diesel-equivalent, processed fuel derived from biological sources .

How Biodiesel is Made?
It is not a new fuel as Rudolf Diesel developed his diesel engine designed to run on peanut oil as early as in 1912. Upon his discovery, he remarked, ”The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum and the coal tar products of the present time."

Bio-diesel can be produced through a simple chemical process known as transesterification by which glycerin; a byproduct is removed to obtain biodiesel. In short it can be summarized as:

Veg oil/Fat+Alcohol=Biodiesel+Glycerine

Transesterification is done to the oil/Fat, which can be vegetable oil (either edible or nonedible) or animal tallow

Application(Use) of Biodiesel
Bio-diesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a bio-diesel blend or can be used in its pure form. Just like petroleum diesel, Bio-diesel Operates in compression engine; which essentially require no engine modifications because bio-diesel has properties similar to petroleum diesel fuels. It can be stored just like the petroleum diesel fuel and hence does not require separate infrastructure.

Biodiesel v/s Petroleum Diesel
Biodiesel is much cleaner than fossil-fuel diesel. It can be used in any diesel engine with no need for modifications in fact diesel engines run better and last longer with biodiesel. And it can easily be made locally.
  • Biodiesel fuel burns up to 75% cleaner than conventional diesel fuel made from fossil fuels
  • Biodiesel substantially reduces unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter in exhaust fumes
  • Sulphur dioxide emissions are eliminated (biodiesel contains no sulphur)
  • Biodiesel is plant-based and adds no CO2 to the atmosphere
  • The ozone-forming potential of biodiesel emissions is nearly 50% less than conventional diesel fuel
  • Biodiesel exhaust is not offensive and doesn't cause eye irritation Biodiesel is environmentally friendly. it is renewable, "more biodegradable than sugar and less toxic than table salt" (US National Biodiesel Board)
  • Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine
  • Fuel economy is the same as conventional diesel fuel
  • Biodiesel is a much better lubricant than conventional diesel fuel and extends engine life a German truck won an entry in the Guinness Book of Records by traveling more than 1.25 million km (780,000 miles) on biodiesel with its original engine
  • Biodiesel has a high cetane rating, which improves engine performance 20% biodiesel added to conventional diesel fuel improves the cetane rating 3 points, making it a Premium fuel
  • Biodiesel can be mixed with ordinary petroleum diesel fuel in any proportion, with no need for a mixing additive.
  • Even a small amount of biodiesel means cleaner emissions and better engine lubrication: 1% biodiesel will increase lubricity by 65%

Why Gomti Biodiesel?
We follow a stringent manufacturing process for our product development, and ensure that their chemical formulations are in exact accordance to the prescribed norms of quality and safety. Maintaining quality standards of our products is the philosophy of the company. A quality control laboratory is part of the establishment and arrangements have been made with Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehra Dun and GB Pant Agricultural University, Pant Nagar for getting the necessary certification on quality of the products.
